Appraisals, Art and Needfulthings:

antiquestore1.jpgRichard Moroz, owner of Appraisals, Art and Needfulthings, is becoming a household name in the arts and antique world. He exudes a taste for the finer things in life. He is a respected antiques expert and revered businessman. Richard has held some of the finest estate sales in the city of Saskatoon and the province of Saskatchewan. He has evaluated claims for insurance companies, appraised various goods for auction houses, law firms and various individuals. Some of the many varieties of items he has bought, sold, appraised or evaluated include: post contact Native Canadian artifacts including beadwork and other trade items, antiques of English, Australian and Scottish origin, items from the Boer War and knives, daggers, guns and medals used in Nazi Germany. Research was done mainly by book and text for many years and today; with the accessibility of on-line research, evaluations are more extensive. Richard began pursuing this interest as a hobby in 1978; it soon became a part time business, and began as a full time career in 1994.

Richard has also held “Antiques Roadshow” events for charitable organizations, community groups and other associations. Through these events he has taught those interested to distinguish between reproduction and authentic vintage pieces.

In 1995 Richard opened a small 2,000 square foot antique and collectible retail outlet that grew quickly and in 1997 he relocated and expanded to a 30,000 square foot outlet. The day to day operations of the retail business took away from the ability to spend as much time appraising and evaluating estates for auction and dispersal. In 2001 he closed the business and returned to his passion; his practice of full time appraisals and estate dispersal, which includes the research and evaluation of rare and unusual vintage artifacts. Richard also specializes in online sales, link on the right to access items listed for sale.

Richard is one of the founders of the annual Saskatoon City Police “Guardians of the Flame”, formerly known as “Torch Run” art auction which sponsors Special Needs Olympics for the Saskatoon Police Service. In the over nine years that the annual art auction has been held, Richard has been very involved in the production of the “Guardians of the Flame” charity art auction and has been the exclusive appraiser and evaluator of the donated pieces. Richard’s extensive knowledge in art, both contemporary and vintage has helped this organization realize the top prices for art and sculptures.
